About

The story behind Nine Sixteen.

A core group of producers and department heads who kept ending up on the same sets — and decided to point that experience at the vertical screen.

Where we come from

Forged on real sets.

Over the past several years, our team has collaborated across a wide range of productions — commercial campaigns, documentaries, award-winning independent films, and television movie productions, including MOW projects for Hallmark and Lifetime.

Through those projects, a core group of producers and department heads developed a strong working relationship built on collaboration, efficiency, and practical production experience.

As global demand for vertical narrative content keeps growing, we saw the opportunity: apply that combined experience to the emerging format. Nine Sixteen brings this team together with one shared goal — high-quality vertical storytelling on disciplined budgets and efficient schedules.

How we work

Budget-driven productions.

MOWs, lower-budget features, and commercial work taught us how to deliver high-quality productions within defined budgets — it's the discipline the vertical format demands.

Beyond production, we bring a deep understanding of marketing, social media, and current content trends, so every project is executed efficiently and positioned to connect with today's audiences.

That combination lets us design workflows that maximize resources, stay on schedule and on budget, and deliver content that performs.

Why us

Real & raw.

We show up, solve problems, and take pride in everything we do. This isn't just work to us — and it shows in how we collaborate and deliver.

Real relationships

A trusted network of crew, department heads, rental houses, and locations — built over years, not scraped from a directory. It makes for smoother workflows and a cost-effective, friendly approach.

Rooted on the Island

We're deeply connected to the Vancouver Island film community, with hands-on experience across the region. We move fast, stay organized, and support productions of all sizes with confidence.

A cinematic backyard

Oceans, beaches, lakes, mountains, forests, high-end homes, and unique locations — with fewer restrictions and lower costs than larger cities. Efficient productions, high-end look.

At the end of the day, we keep it simple: work hard, stay honest, and make great content with good people.

Canadian Vertical Film Festival

Founders of CVFF.

We founded the Canadian Vertical Film Festival — Canada's premiere festival dedicated to vertical filmmaking, hosted at Victoria International Marina in Victoria, BC. The first edition ran July 25, 2026: a custom-built vertical screen, worldwide submissions across all genres, live panels, and a full festival day. It reflects our belief that vertical content is a growing global medium, and it keeps Nine Sixteen at the forefront of its development.
